Everyday Natural Makeup Look With My New Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette

I’m completely infatuated with YouTube beauty tutorials now, specifically Tiffany D, Tanya Burr, Michelle Phan and Carli Bybel.  Tanya Burr recently did a gorgeous date night eye makeup tutorial that inspired my look in today’s post.  She paired it with a bright fuchsia lip … Continue reading

I love gold eye makeup.  I think it’s flattering on everybody and can be worn day or night.  Here’s a look I wear frequently during the day.  It can easily be darkened for nights out by applying deeper browns and … Continue reading

Happy Things

Happy Friday! Sorry I haven’t been updating as frequently as I normally do! I’m still getting caught up from being on vacation in Florida. Here are a few things that have perked up my week in pictures:

20120823-135000.jpg{This is one coat of Essie Ballet Slippers with one coat of Essie Mademoiselle. Essie Weingarten herself wears this combination so I had to try it!}

20120823-135031.jpg{This was the ONLY makeup I packed for my Florida trip besides lipgloss. I was so proud of myself. These essentials kept me feeling put together without being overdone. Products: MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle, MAC Powder Blush in Dame, NARS Illuminator in Copacabana, Stila Stay All Day 10-1 HD Beauty Balm (Laura Mercier is still my favorite but I left it at home for this trip), CoverGirl LashBlast mascara (this is my second favorite mascara. L’Oreal Voluminous is my fave.)

20120823-135107.jpg{I did a fun twist on the french manicure this week with Essie Mademoiselle and Martha Stewart Glitter in Sugar Cube as the tip.}

20120823-135118.jpg{Jon was out of town this week so I cooked for one! I made myself this salmon dinner and this Brussels sprouts dish…so good!}

20120823-135125.jpg{Steel-cut oatmeal with fresh strawberry slices and a touch of agave was the perfect breakfast this week.}

20120823-135135.jpg{My friend Paula and I had a fun night in this week. We baked a homemade, healthy pizza (recipe coming next week!), sipped red wine and watched the movie Bachelorette on OnDemand. Hilarious movie.}

{**OBSESSED** with this Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner. It came in my July Birchbox and I just love love love it.}

New Favorite Lipstick! CoverGirl LipPerfection Lipstick in Delish

I’m a huge lipstick lover and always looking for new favorites. I usually lean toward MAC lipsticks because they have amazing pigment, a nice vanilla scent and are affordable considering the quality. For drugstore brands I’m a fan of Revlon lipstick and hadn’t tried CoverGirl lipsticks before. I came across this advertisement of the gorgeous model Jessica Stam wearing CoverGirl LipPerfection Lipstick in Delish and just had to have it. How insanely beautiful is this picture?!

Delish is a warm peachy nude shade. It reminds me a little bit of MAC Honeylove (another favorite of mine) but it’s peachier. It really warms up the face and gives a natural, polished look. Delish is a part of the Runway Shades collection that makeup artist Pat McGrath created for CoverGirl.

The texture of the lipstick is rich and creamy. It feels luxurious like a department store lipstick. The LipPerfection line has silk proteins in it and claims to transform your lips in 7 days to be smoother and more hydrated. It does have a smell to it that I don’t like but it goes away after applying.

I also picked up the same lipstick in Temptress because one of my favorite fashion bloggers, Penny Pincher Fashion, wears it often and it looks gorgeous on her. You can see her wearing the lipstick here. Temptress is a medium/bright pink with a bit of shimmer. While it’s a pretty shade I have countless other pink lipsticks I like better. I wouldn’t repurchase this one.

Here’s Delish on my lips and on my hand:

I am totally smitten with Delish and find myself reaching for it as my daily lipstick. I’ve been favoring a low-key makeup routine this summer and rely on my dewy skin routine, Eyeko black liquid liner that I got in my Birchbox and glossy black lashes with this routine. Then I just swipe on this lipstick and I’m left with a fresh, polished, natural look for the hot summer days. It’s also going to be a great fall color. LipPerfection lipsticks are $6.99-$7.99.

Have you tried the CoverGirl LipPerfection Lipsticks?

July Birchbox

20120720-164503.jpg

July’s Birchbox is a Senses theme so it’s full of things for hearing, tasting, feeling and smelling.

What’s Inside

Boscia Green Tea Blotting Papers

-What it is: These are for oily skin. They absorb oil and are full of beneficial green tea extracts to leave your skin matte.

-My thoughts: My skin is bone dry so I wouldn’t put these on my skin ever, nor would they do anything if I did. I’ll give them to a friend with oily skin and I’m sure they will work wonderfully. Boscia is a fantastic skincare brand. I’m a little disappointed these were in my box considering we fill out a personalized form so they know our skin type.

Full-size cost: $10

Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner

-What it is: The product name pretty much says it all!

-My thoughts: Eyeko is a great brand. I received a full-sized liner, which was exciting! It gives a really precise, even line and is easier to use than most liquid liners I’ve used. Love it!

Full-size cost: $15

Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint

-What it is: A light-weight tinted moisturizer that gives a dewy finish.

-My Thoughts: This is very similar to my beloved Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer.  Similar, luxurious texture and luminizing finish.  I applied it with my BeautyBlender this morning and really liked it.

-Full-size cost: $38

Oscar de la Renta Live in Love perfume sample

-What it is: A feminine floral fragrance with hyacinth, orchid, sandalwood and cedar.

-My thoughts: This is a really girly, soft perfume that I like. Not sure I would pay for a full bottle but it’s a nice scent.

Full-size cost: $78

Larabar Uber on Cherry Cobbler

What it is: A snack bar packed with dried nuts, fruit and a touch of honey.

My Thoughts: I love Larabar and this was delicious. I love that her ingredients are so simple and natural. All her bars leave me feeling full and energetic.

Full-size cost: $27.95 for a 16-pack

Earbuds:

What it is: Earbuds for your iPhone, iPod, etc.

My Thoughts: I absolutely love the neon green and hot pink colors. These are so cute! The iPhone earbuds typically make my ears sore after wearing for a while and these don’t do that! They do slip out of my ears easier than the iPhone ones, though.

Cost: $10

Perfect Spring Lips: My Favorite Bright Pink Lip Colors

My go-to lip color is normally a muted, pale pink that goes with anything. I typically like to wear eye makeup that’s on the darker side so a light lip balances this out.

Now that the warm weather has arrived, I prefer a beauty routine that’s more low maintenance. I’ve been wearing a light, shimmery eyeshadow (like this and this), a touch of bronzer and a sheer, bright pink lip color. It makes for a perfect spring/summer look that takes only minutes to put together. Here are my favorite bright pink lip colors I’ve been using regularly this spring:

Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in Sweet Tart

This is currently my daily lip color. It’s bright enough to make your lips pop and sheer enough to wear to the office and apply easily without a mirror. It’s a juicy watermelon cream shade with no shimmer. The Revlon Lip Butters have no scent, which I really like.

Aveda Nourish-Mint Rehydrating Lip Glaze in Pink Lotus

This is a gorgeous blue-based bright pink gloss that’s fully pigmented like a lipstick. It’s perfect for going out because it goes on easily and leaves your lips super shiny and pink.

Eyeko Liptastik Glossy Lip Pen in Loud Mouth

This lip pen is adorable, it smells good and the color is a bright rosy pink. The color pigment is intense and it wears like a lipstick. I’ll dab this on lightly for a wearable daytime color and apply more heavily at night.

Revlon Moondrops Lipstick in Persian Melon

My favorite blogger, Emily from Cupcakes & Cashmere, loves this lipstick. She lists it as one of her favorite items here. This is a great lip color for going out. It’s a gorgeous hot pink cream with no shimmer, which is ideal. I prefer a lip color with no shimmer when a color is this bright. I recently purchased it and absolutely love the color. It’s definitely a fantastic drugstore lipstick and should be added to this list!
