With the dry heat summer brings to New Mexico, switching up my beauty routine is a must. I like to keep it simple and fresh with a touch of glam during these hot months. To me this means trading in … Continue reading
Peace Love and Glitter is a fellow beauty blogger and one of my first blogging friends I made when I started Gourmet Beauty (read my beauty interview with her here). She’s currently in aesthetics school and she’s a huge fan of Image Skincare, as am I. She recently posted a picture of two Image masques on Instagram and said that combining them sheds dead skin and leaves your face luminous. I have both of these masques and had to try it immediately! I absolutely love both of these masques on their own so I was looking forward to seeing the results of using them together. I tried this routine before our girls night out this past weekend and was thrilled with the glow I achieved. Details are below and both of these products are for all skin types so I would suggest this to anyone!
Step 1: The first product is the Vital C Hydrating Enzyme Masque. This masque is full of enzymes that gently exfoliate dead skin while the antioxidants and vitamins replenish skin. It’s for all skin types and is particularly great for dry skin, aging skin, or Rosacea. This masque has a creamy consistency that just melts into the skin and smells like oranges.
Apply this mask first and allow the enzymes to start sloughing off the skin. You will feel a tingling sensation as the product does its magic. After about 10-15 minutes, apply the second masque.
Step 2: The second masque is the Ageless Total Resurfacing Masque. This one is my personal favorite due to the minty fresh smell. This masque contains Glycolic and Salicylic acids to exfoliate and cleanse while a lightening agent lessens any discolorations or brown spots. This masque is also ideal for all skin types, although it does have exfoliating beads in it, unlike the above Enzyme Masque, and people with severe acne may want to avoid it. These beads can rupture acne and make it worse.
After letting the Enzyme Masque start working, don’t rinse it off. Rub the Resurfacing Masque into skin so it mixes with the first product. The blend of both products and all the active ingredients work wonders on skin. This combo hydrates and nourishes skin while deep cleaning and shedding dead skin. Leave this on your face for another 10 minutes or so, then wet heads and rub the products into your skin one last time before rinsing it all off thoroughly.
Your skin should feel soft and look luminous. After using these products and all other masques I rub a nourishing oil or serum into my skin to amp up the glow factor and rehydrate. My favorites are Argan and coconut oil or Vinie’s Dry Skin Dew Drops.
After you achieve the glow that these two masques will give you, you can increase your luminosity by following my dewy skin makeup routine!
I’m a huge lipstick lover and always looking for new favorites. I usually lean toward MAC lipsticks because they have amazing pigment, a nice vanilla scent and are affordable considering the quality. For drugstore brands I’m a fan of Revlon lipstick and hadn’t tried CoverGirl lipsticks before. I came across this advertisement of the gorgeous model Jessica Stam wearing CoverGirl LipPerfection Lipstick in Delish and just had to have it. How insanely beautiful is this picture?!
Delish is a warm peachy nude shade. It reminds me a little bit of MAC Honeylove (another favorite of mine) but it’s peachier. It really warms up the face and gives a natural, polished look. Delish is a part of the Runway Shades collection that makeup artist Pat McGrath created for CoverGirl.
The texture of the lipstick is rich and creamy. It feels luxurious like a department store lipstick. The LipPerfection line has silk proteins in it and claims to transform your lips in 7 days to be smoother and more hydrated. It does have a smell to it that I don’t like but it goes away after applying.
I also picked up the same lipstick in Temptress because one of my favorite fashion bloggers, Penny Pincher Fashion, wears it often and it looks gorgeous on her. You can see her wearing the lipstick here. Temptress is a medium/bright pink with a bit of shimmer. While it’s a pretty shade I have countless other pink lipsticks I like better. I wouldn’t repurchase this one.
Here’s Delish on my lips and on my hand:
I am totally smitten with Delish and find myself reaching for it as my daily lipstick. I’ve been favoring a low-key makeup routine this summer and rely on my dewy skin routine, Eyeko black liquid liner that I got in my Birchbox and glossy black lashes with this routine. Then I just swipe on this lipstick and I’m left with a fresh, polished, natural look for the hot summer days. It’s also going to be a great fall color. LipPerfection lipsticks are $6.99-$7.99.
Have you tried the CoverGirl LipPerfection Lipsticks?
My June Beauty Talk guest listed the BeautyBlender as one of her top 5 beauty essentials. After hearing her rave about it I just had to get myself one! I’m so glad I did. This is so far from your drugstore makeup sponge … Continue reading
I prefer a dewy, luminous glow over a matte look any day. Particularly in warm weather. Taking proper care of you skin and drinking tons of water is the first step in getting this look (you can see my skincare routine & tips here). Once you have that down, you can use products to enhance the appearance of your skin. My favorite blogger, Emily of Cupcakes & Cashmere, does a great dewy makeup how-to here. Here are my tips and products for achieving a dewy glow:
1. Moisturize before applying any makeup
This is a very important step, wether you’re going for a dewy look or not. When skin is dry, makeup can’t apply and set smoothly. I apply moisturizer first thing in the morning, let it soak in while I get ready for my day and then apply my makeup.
2. Opt for tinted moisturizer over foundation
Foundation can be too heavy on the skin and create too much coverage, which decreases luminosity. I swear by Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20. It’s a bit pricey but well worth it. It lasts for awhile and give the most beautiful, sheer coverage.
If you have a foundation that you really like make your own tinted moisturizer by mixing your foundation with your daily face lotion.
3. Use a liquid illuminator
I’ve tried several and NARS Illuminator in Copacabana is my favorite. you can use an illuminator many different ways but I prefer to mix a drop in with my tinted moisturizer and apply both together. If you prefer to use it separately, use sparingly and apply to cheek bones and bridge of nose. Blend really well.
On lazy weekends when I’m wearing little to no makeup I’ll skip the tinted moisturizer, blend the illuminator in with my daily moisturizer, apply some lipgloss and be done!
4. Use a bit of bronzer
I love Nars Bronzing Powder in Laguna. It’s gives really smooth, even color and blends easily so I’m never left with any accidents. Lightly sweep the bronzer all over your face, particularly your cheek bones and nose.
5. Finish with cheek color and shimmer powder
For my cheek color I alternate between Tarte Cheek Stain in True Love and Nars powder blush in Orgasm. The cheek stain will enhance the dewy factor more than the powder blush will, but both are great.
I finish off the look with a swipe of MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle. It’s a light shimmer powder that gives a luminous glow.
This may sound like a lot of makeup but I use each of these products very sparingly so I don’t end up looking too overdone, cakey, shimmery, etc.
6. Spritz with a facial water or toner
To set your makeup and enhance luminosity I spritz on either Evian Mineral Water Spray or Lush Breath of Fresh Air toner. I like to keep one of these in my bag for a mist of hydration and refreshment throughout the day and also to freshen the appearance of my makeup.
